Job Description
PURPOSE
The Disability Support Worker provides and delivers individual and personalised care and support to participants, in line with their needs and choices, so that they may achieve their goals as stated in their NDIS plans. The Disability Support Worker’s responsibilities may include personal care, preparing meals and other health and wellness related activities, house cleaning, transportation, and communicating relevant information to support. The Disability Support Worker will demonstrate a commitment to safe and effective practices, providing services in a caring and respectful manner in accordance with Sydwest and Riverlink’s policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
Provide high quality supports in line with the objectives of the NDIS either in the participants home, Riverlink site or in the community.
Represent Riverlink in a professional and positive manner.
Adhere to Riverlink Policies and Procedures and the Code of Conduct.
Work independently and demonstrate flexible, team-based work ethics.
Attend meetings, training, professional development, and supervision as required.
Communication and Administration
Ensure all information regarding the wellbeing of participants and any significant changes to support needs are reported to the line manager.
Ensure any information regarding request for changes in support schedules are reported to a line manager.
Ensure any feedback whether positive or negative is reported to a line manager.
Transport
Public transport, your own or Riverlink vehicles may be used in the course of your duties. To drive clients vehicles driving history will be required and evidence of comprehensive insurance is required when using personal vehicle/s.
Any transport used during a shift with a participant must be approved by a line manager and specified in the shift notes.
To drive any Riverlink vehicles a driver orientation must be completed with the required checklist being signed by support worker and line manager.
To use your own vehicle for a Riverlink shift you must first submit a copy of your comprehensive insurance by uploading it to your Employment Hero profile.
Ensure any claimable kms are entered in the dsystem at the end of the shift.
Drive in a responsible and courtesy manner to promote ,Riverlink in a professional and positive manner.
Desired Skills and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Current NDIS Workers Clearance Check.
Current First Aid certificate and CPR.
Current Working with Children Check.
Completed relevant training modules (e.g. NDIS worker Orientation Module, Infection Control training).
Fully Vaccinated against Covid-19.
Tertiary qualifications in Disability, Social Science or related disciplines.
0 to 3 years of experience in a similar role (aged care, community / special needs education & teaching/community services).
Epilepsy training.
Knowledge and application of safe manual handling practices.
Sound Knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators.
Current Australian Driver’s License and access to a registered and comprehensively insured vehicle (suitable for transporting consumers).
Strong knowledge and understanding of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
Experience in working with person-centred planning techniques in addition to delivering and leading excellent supports practices.
Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload while working under pressure.
Demonstrated experience in the provision of support services to individuals with complex to high support need disabilities and challenging behaviours (including medical support needs).
